Behind the Scenes: Prelude

In early 2023, after we selected the robots for creation as physical mascots and gave them their names, I went about writing their background story.

"Why will anyone care to meet a pair of robots at Fan Fusion? And what would two robots from a distant planet be doing at a pop-culture convention?"

I like the trope of "two robots from a distant planet crash-land on earth", with the twist of "they crash-land in Arizona".

I like the trope of "they crash-land in the 1920s".

And I felt that the pop culture event equivalent in the 1920s was a traveling carnival.

Thus, Sunset and Meteor crash-land in Arizona in the 1920s and join a traveling carnival.

"As one does," we've been told, when we share their story with others.

I wrote a two page story outline, sent it to Travis, and said, "We should make it into a comic book and give it away in the Fan Fusion program guide."
