Captain Clown is Edith Searle, a poet and prankster who writes haikus and throws pies with equal conviction. She is the carnival's mother, the one who holds the troupe together when the road gets long and the crowds get thin. When the fight comes, Edith doesn't hang back. She stands next to Kirby Barks, just as she always has.
